Vera is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences and a minor in Spanish.

Upon graduating, she spent two months working for the Office of Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn as an NGRREC intern. In that time, she helped devise a plan to improve Illinois’ stream monitoring program, RiverWatch, and participated in campaign work. Vera is now the state RiverWatch Coordinator and also is involved in planning an upcoming conference on Illinois’ Cache River.
